Cool Stools
We’ve seen small rustic wood stools propped in showers but this luxe addition elevates a stack of towels (literally) and is a glam spot for a pedicure.

Tilted Tubs
Placing a standalone tub into a corner maxes out space in a bathroom. Tucked into this principal bedroom ensuite, a sculptural tub positioned near a window is lavished with light yet doesn’t eat up valuable floor space, and there’s even enough room for a small table.

Capsule Mirrors
The natural evolution of the mania for round mirrors, capsule mirrors are elongated and elegant.

Antiques
We’re used to seeing heirlooms on display in dining rooms and living spaces, but a more intimate spot like a bathroom benefits from these additions. In designer Nyla Free’s Calgary bathroom, an ornate brass chandelier that hung in her grandparents’ dining room, is a moment of unexpected charm.

Heritage Fixtures
Brass gives fixtures like a generous rainhead shower and handheld spray a classic, historic look. The bonus? The finish warms up materials like porcelain (shown here) and marble.

Plants Galore
Everyone knows plants play a role in relaxation. Designer Alison Milne’s principal bathroom is a space for rejuvenation where a large potted tree and smaller plants inject a spa-like, Japandi feel to the space (and plants love the humidity).

Full Drapes
There’s a particular luxury to a full drape in a bathroom (as opposed to a more workaday blind). It’s a great way to add pattern, texture and softness to counteract all the hard surfaces.

Upholstered Furniture
A walnut chair in Sharon Mimran’s bathroom is a luxe note with a white upholstered seat and nailhead detailing.

Scenic Murals
A hand-painted silver and gold-leafed cherry blossom Sakura mural by Peter Costello enhances this sophisticated bathroom. Murals form a striking backdrop for sculptural tubs.

Mixed Scales
You don’t have to stick with one-size-fits-all tile. This bathroom combines small mosaic tiles (which glimmer like jewels) with larger square versions to show how varying the size creates interest, without busyness.
