Kid-Friendly Organization Ideas With The Home Edit
You know you’re part of a dream team when Gwyneth Paltrow asks you to organize her playroom. When they aren’t whipping Khloe Kardashian’s closet into shape, Nashville-based experts The Home Edit‘s Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin have advice on how to tackle the clutter pain points in your own home (you could even get your kids involved). Get inspired to tackle your tidying head on!

Designate A Living Room Play Area
“We know, authorizing any designated space for your kids in the living room is terrifying, but hear us out,” says Clea. Visually distinguish their space by adding color to it. Separating toys by hue in containers placed on a vibrant mat will help prompt kids to put things away in the right place and can turn cleanup into a game.
Rainbow Bookshelf
A fun organizing project for kids, arranging books by color helps preschoolers identify their favorite bedtime reads by cover and looks super cheerful all together.
Bar Cart Coffee Station
Clear the counter with a bar cart. “Love coffee but can’t accommodate an espresso machine in the kitchen?” says Clea. “Move it to the living room and create a speciality coffee bar.” The frother on the Philips 3200 LatteGo is easy to clean and creates a velvety foam and has made Joanna reconsider her allegiance to her barista.
Maintain Dividers
Using dedicated dividers for utensils seems like a no-brainer, but placing containers in dead spaces helps keep items neatly sorted and eliminates the dreaded “junk drawer” effect. “Pull everything out, then categorize and contain,” says Joanna. “When you have a system, it’s easy to maintain.”
Container Storage
Reusable containers can be awkward to store and hard to match with lids. Stack lids like a file folder, and place smaller containers inside larger ones. Keep lunch bags close by by tucking them neatly in a drawer.
Snack Drawer
Rather than storing snacks in a cupboard, stocking a drawer full of popular picks lets children access their favorites themselves.
Organized Vanity
In bathrooms, organize products into general categories, like Face & Body, Dental and Nails. Write his or hers on a container using clear print labels or a grease pencil. “Labelling containers is the key to maintaining a system,” adds Clea.
Categorize Products
“You can create subcategories with smaller bin inserts and dividers,” says Joanna. “Create a ‘daily drawer’ for frequently used toiletries in morning and evening routines. Items stored in Lazy Susans are easy to access during the morning rush.
