Celebrate July 4th With Classic Nantucket Style
Iconic American coastal style comes to life at the new Salt House Nantucket — an exclusive summer pop-up hotel with a full launch set for summer 2023. Founded in 2014 by CEO David Bowd (formerly Chateau Marmont in Hollywood, The Mercer in New York, and the Chiltern Firehouse in London) and Kevin O’Shea, Salt Hotels are located in Cape Cod, Miami, New Jersey and the Hudson Valley and combine the amenities and technology of large lifestyle hotels with the character of luxury inns. “Salt House Nantucket will be a true celebration of summers on the Cape,” says David Bowd. “Since launching our first property in Provincetown, Salt Hotels has always considered New England as its home base, so we’re thrilled to continue planting our roots in this region in this beautiful beachfront community.”

Nantucket is famous for its cedar shake shingles. As they age, the unpainted cedar mellows to a weathered grey from exposure to the oceanfront elements. In the 19th century, Nantucket’s Quaker population influenced the architectural styles on the island with their insistence on simplicity and minimal decoration. Today, historical guidelines preserve the area’s unique character.
Featuring 18 rooms, the historic-inspired hotel is situated in the heart of Brant Point, MA, minutes from downtown and steps from the beach.
The summer destination spot features ample gathering spaces including an expansive lawn filled with games, fire pits surrounded by Adirondack chairs and plenty of quiet corners to enjoy an inventive cocktail or tuck into a good book. Next year the hotel will be introducing a barn-style building, lobby, lounge and swimming pool.
The airy suites are inspired by the agrarian past of the historic Brant Point neighborhood, which was once dotted with working farms. The oak post and beam structures that make up the hotel have been given a modern overhaul with bleached oak floors and a warm neutral palette.
“Salt House Nantucket has a light and contemporary look, apt for a New England escape,” says Kevin O’Shea, CEO of Salt Hotels. “We chose a sophisticated color palette and design aesthetic – quintessentially summer on Nantucket; easy breezy.”
Accents like this homespun cupboard filled with artisanal dishes and local finds instill the hotel rooms with a highly personal, curated look.
Neutral furnishings and natural materials like a wood coffee table and sisal carpet contribute to the zen vibe of this main living space.
Breezy window details like this linen curtain with eyelet details and a wood branch drive home the beachy feel. The beams are given a coat of whitewash so that rustic cracks and woodgrain remain visible.
The combo of oak beams and panelled walls give charming character to this bedroom, while the platform bed dressed in crisp white linens maintains the sophisticated, hotel-like ambience.
